What is SCALEBUSTER

• ION ScaleBuster is a proven water conditioning technology for general pipework, heating and plumbing equipment, appliances and processing equipment.
• Designed for industrial, commercial, and municipal applications, the proprietary electrostatic technology of the ION ScaleBuster works effectively and efficiently – without chemicals, power or moving parts.

How it works & it's Technology

• As water flows through, cavitation within the ION ScaleBuster chamber unit produces violent pressure changes that break up bicarbonate molecules and the dielectric materials produce static effects.
• The electro-static galvanizing action of the ION ScaleBuster causes the breakdown of calcium and magnesium bicarbonates in the solution, (hardness in the water) which precipitate less soluble carbonates.
• As a result, the treated water becomes less saturated and is able to dissolve existing deposits over time.
• The combination of these effects is repeated many times. Once the salts are precipitated or removed, this action improves the flow and overall efficacy and efficiency of the piping system. 
• The operation of the patented ION ScaleBuster requires a moving stream of water to enable the hydrodynamic process to work.

Enables the premature precipitation of calcium carbonate into the water stream by breaking down a significant proportion of the bicarbonates.

HYDRODYNAMIC ACTION

Inside each ION ScaleBuster carefully designed hydrodynamic chambers create micro jet turbulence and pressure changes as the water passes through. This effect increases the tendency for water to yield prematurely some of the scale with which it is saturated. Sonic effects created in the water by this hydrodynamic action help to keep the inside of ION ScaleBuster free from fouling due to algae or scale.

DIELECTRIC ACTIONION

ScaleBuster incorporates a large surface area of PTFE, a dielectric material. When water passes over the surface of the dielectric material, electrical energy is generated. This electrical energy passes harmlessly through the stream of water creating a de-stabilising effect, enabling the premature precipitation of calcium carbonate into the water stream by breaking down a significant proportion of bicarbonates.

ANODIC ACTION

Ion ScaleBuster also contains a large surface area of zinc, which is bonded to the body of the unit by a unique patented dry connection. This ensures that electrical conductivity is not impaired due to the potential build up of corrosion at the point where the zinc anode meets the body of the unit. The electrolytic cell formed by the zinc and the body allows the slow release of zinc ions into the water stream which act as nuclei for scale formation.

• Unlike systems that use harsh chemicals to dissolve scale and corrosion and contribute toxic pollutants to groundwater, the ION ScaleBuster works without chemicals.

Chemical-Free Flocculent 

• The patented construction of its PTFE (Teflon® ) turbulence chambers alters the static balance within the unit.
• This neutralizes charged particles, causing them to flocculate, or form large clump particles that are slower to re-dissolve in the water.
• In normal “straight flow” systems, the flocculate particles of scale remain harmlessly in the flow of the water and are unable to adhere to the pipe surfaces. 
• In re-circulating systems – or those that contain settlement areas – filtration or flushing is commonly used to remove these treatment by-products. 
• It also provides the means for removal of other dissolved substances (such as iron) or suspended solids or particles (such as proteins) found in water, as the precipitation and coagulation effect produced by the ION ScaleBuster conditioner leads to larger particles, which may be filtered out effectively. This process reduces the water conductivity, of course. 

Treatment will produce calcium carbonate crystals of small elliptic shapes between 3-10 micro meter with
no particular orientation, which proved to be easy to remove From a heat transfer surface.

Calcite is more stable in general than aragonite, although as temperatures and pressures change one of the
two minerals may convert to the other.
